Twin Falls is the county seat of Twin Falls County, Idaho. In 2010, when the United States government conducted its most recent census, it determined that Twin Falls had a population just over 44,000. Back in the mid-seventies, stuntman Evel Knievel attempted to cross Twin Falls’ Snake River Canyon with a rocket-powered motorcycle.
Tell Me a Story
Originally inhabited by members of the Shoshone and Bannock Native American tribes, Twin Falls met its first white settlers in the form of an American troupe led by Wilson Price Hunt. While a number of Caucasian settlers continued to make a go of it over the next 50 or so years, the first permanent settlement wasn’t established until 1864. Twin Falls soon became a major agricultural center, producing beans and sugar beets like they were going out of style.

Twin Falls has a rich educational history, and is currently home to a number of elementary schools (9), middle schools (3) and high schools (3), as well as satellite campuses of Boise State University, Idaho State University and the University of Idaho. In recent years, Twin Falls has even established a couple of charter schools.

Notable residents of Twin Falls include former NASA engineer and science fiction writer Gary L. Bennett, comedian Dorothy Custer, actress Robyn Hilton, Watergate informant W. Mark Felt, Mad Men star Christina Hendricks and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Melvin Schwartz. Not too shabby for a town of 44,000 people.
